Through the Better Plants program, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) offers training and learning experiences that educate participants on savings opportunities and best practices to incorporate at their own facilities. There are four different types of learning experiences partners can participate in including: In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs), Virtual Trainings (VTs), Energy Treasure Hunts (ETHs), and Bootcamps.
In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs)
In-Plant Trainings (INPLTs) are workshops led by Better Plants experts that train participants on how to identify, implement, and replicate energy-saving projects. Better Plants partners host an on-site, three-day training at one of their facilities, and invite others to attend. Technical expertise gained through the INPLTs help companies overcome common, critical barriers to adopting energy management practices and technologies.
What INPLT Topics Are Available to Partners?
Within the application, facility managers can choose a topic to highlight at an INPLT training. Trainings range from 2 - 4 days depending on the chosen system type, plant size, and complexity. See the full list of topics available below.
| 50001 Ready | Compressed Air | Fan Systems | Process Heating |
| Pump Systems | Refrigeration | Steam Systems | Water |
| Waste Reduction | Wastewater Treatment | ||
Virtual Trainings
Virtual Trainings are workshops led by Better Plants experts that train participants on how to identify, implement, and replicate energy-saving projects. The training sessions occur online over the course of 4 to 8 weeks and are open to all US manufacturers. Technical expertise gained through the Virtual Trainings help partners overcome barriers to adopting best practices and technologies.

Better Plants Bootcamps
The Better Plants program and Oak Ridge National Laboratory offer a 3-day intensive workshop throughout the year. The bootcamps combine class instructions, how to use diagnostic equipment and DOE's free software tools, hands-on activities, and science tours. The training is open to anyone who is new to a role in energy savings and management and seasoned professionals who are looking to expand their knowledge - you do not have to be a partner to participate.

Energy Treasure Hunts
Energy Treasure Hunts are events facilitated by Better Plants experts that train participants on how to identify and measure energy-saving projects using a variety of diagnostic equipment and tools. Better Plants partners host an on-site, three-day training at one of their facilities, and invite others to attend. Expertise gained through the facilitated events help companies train their employees on how to conduct their own Energy Treasure Hunt events for their organization.
