Introducing Sector-Specific Energy Financing Primers

By Better Buildings Beat Team on May 13, 2019

Depending on your market sector, there can be different challenges and opportunities regarding financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. A range of factors can affect how a building owner may choose to approach financing for energy projects, and much of the available guidance is scattered across the web or buried within a dense white paper.

To make better sense of it all, through Better Buildings, DOE has developed a suite of sector-specific energy financing primers:

These primers provide an “everything you need to know, but nothing you don’t” summary of how energy efficiency and renewable energy financing is done for a given market sector. The primers provide an overview of key barriers, common financing mechanisms, case studies, market data, and additional resources to help building owners better understand the financing landscape and make the best choice for their project.

The primers are housed in the Better Buildings Financing Navigator. The Navigator is an online tool developed by the Department of Energy that helps public and private sector organizations find financing solutions for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The tool helps users understand the array of financing solutions for energy projects that are available in the market and easily explore which option may be best for them.

Since its release in December 2016, thousands of users have relied on the Better Buildings Financing Navigator to help them demystify and access financing and dozens of organizations are actively using the tool to educate their stakeholders about energy finance.

The sector-specific financing primers can also be found on the Better Buildings Financing Navigator’s resources page:
