Better Buildings Summit Showcase Tours: CEB Tower

By Better Buildings Beat Team on Jun 02, 2017

Stay tuned for more highlights from this year’s Better Buildings Summit Showcase Tours.

Better Buildings Challenge partner The JBG Companies led a group of Summit attendees on a tour of CEB Tower, located just outside Washington, D.C. in Rosslyn, Virginia. The 570,000-square-foot, 31-story trophy office building is pre-certified LEED Platinum; it is also home to the highest publicly-accessible point in the D.C. metro area – an overlook platform and observation deck that gives a 360-view of the skyline. JBG made strong efforts to incorporate sustainable design, including Low-E, high performing windows to conserve energy, heat tracing slabs, and an acoustically rated HVAC system. The building also has a Metro-access platform between the commercial and residential tower and bike share access, to push residents and workers to alternate modes of transportation. There are even Bluetooth elevator features, which automatically read your floor and send elevators grouped by patrons’ needs while simultaneously conserving energy and increasing elevator efficiency. These energy-saving features amount to 15 million Btus per year, or $365,000 in annual savings.

Check out these photos from the CEB Tower building tour; thank you to Lindsey Peters, Jessica Long, and the rest of the architectural and engineering teams working with JBG!
