Better Buildings took it on the road to participate in the Energy Innovators Forum in Chicago in late February. Local energy efficiency practitioners gathered at the DIRTT Green Learning Center in downtown Chicago for some serious idea exchange on hot energy topics. The night kicked off with Better Buildings Director Maria Vargas painting a picture of DOE’s vision for energy leaders who share their best practices with others. Then the City of Chicago’s Amy Jewel unveiled key findings from Chicago’s building benchmarking results. Finally, Scott Hackel of event host Seventhwave highlighted collaborations with DOE, including its Accelerate Performance program which works with new building owners to set ambitious EUI goals for new construction projects in the early bid process to ensure energy performance targets are met at completion.
Over 75 attendees then broke out into small groups for expert-led discussions on topics including: smart buildings, zero energy construction, energy-aligned leasing, and more. Participants switched groups every 15 minutes in a whirlwind of energy conversations and business card swapping. The evening capped off with rehydration and networking in DIRTT’s gathering space, which beautifully exemplifies what sustainable, efficient office build-outs can be.
Better Buildings is grateful for the opportunity to visit with our partners in their home cities, and to introduce new collaborators to the resources and opportunities available through the Better Buildings Initiative.
