As social media expands its many channels – LinkedIn, Twitter, Skype – so do the innovative tactics institutions use to reach their communities. Arlington County, Va., pursued a non-traditional way of engaging both residents and the public sector at large. The latest addition to the Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy (AIRE), the county’s successful program committed to improving energy decisions, is its very own podcast series: Rethink Energy.

Arlington County’s Green Building Planner, Jessica Abralind, explores the concept of sustainability and interviews industry leaders to highlight their diversity of energy challenges, strategies, and success stories. The series launched with a two-part interview with Chris Conway, President of Conway Energy, on air sealing and ventilating homes for health and energy benefits. The third episode features a discussion with Patty Shields, Owner of Metro Green, about her experience as a woman in green building construction. The weekly series plans to tackle unique stories on a variety of topics, such as net zero schools, passive home construction, and more.

The Rethink Energy podcast is available both as an application and online at Soundcloud. Whether as an informational guide or a tool to replicate, the Better Buildings team supports the Rethink Energy podcast as a useful mechanism for its partners working toward energy efficiency solutions. Give it a listen!
